About the Class

In this course, students will produce the Mogadore High School Yearbook. Students will learn various layout and design techniques to create spreads and as well as photography techniques. Click here for information about purchasing yearbooks, ads, senior portraits, and sharing photos.

What Is Covered

The main goal of this class is to produce a dynamic and professional yearbook that captures all the highlights from throughout the school year. In this class, students will learn practical and professional skills in areas such as design, photography, and journalism, as well as time management, collaboration, and leadership... all while creating their yearbook.

The first quarter is spent primarily learning the skills necessary for a dynamic yearbook. Students will learn photography techniques, reporting strategies, writing techniques, and design basics. Afterwards, when each student is ready, they will be assigned spreads which will utilize all of these learned skills.

About Grading

  • Progress Book. You can keep track of your students grades and upcoming assignments through Progress Book. As spreads and and projects are assigned, they will be posted in Progress Book.
  • Rubrics. All spreads are graded using rubrics that that break down the assignment into smaller objectives. These provide detailed feedback to the student, breaking down how well they demonstrate each of the project’s requirements. Progress Book only reflects the final grade, so be sure to talk with your student if you want to see these rubrics.
  • Deadlines/Late Work. All assignments are expected to completed by the deadline. Points will be earned by doing so and taken away when late.
  • Fixing Mistakes. Just because a student earned a lower grade on a non-spread assignment doesn’t mean it has to stay that way. Students are encouraged to fix any mistakes and to turn the assignment back in to me. I will then regrade the assignment and update the grade to reflect these changes.
